The Iron Curtain

A Relic of days gone by (or not) J.F.K, Cuba missile crisis, Nikita Khrushchev, Pershing 2, SS 20, Glasnost and Perestroika. The differences in our Eastern/Western Cape Tour are not as extreme as it was at the times of the Iron Curtain, but there are some differences between the two provinces that we will experience. From the Metropolis of Cape Town to the Garden Route, Mountain Passes, Wine regions up to the semi desert Karoo. Diversity is the keyword here.

Day 01

Whoever arrives today will be collected at the airport and brought to the Hotel. In the evening there will be a tour briefing. (D)

Day 02

Cape Town-Cape Peninsular to Hermanus  242 km

After a good breakfast we take delivery of our motorcycles and off we go. All along the coast, Camps Bay, Hout Bay, the fabulous Chapman’s Peak to the Cape of Good Hope. Coffee break, take pictures and continue. Via Boulders Beach and Simons Town we will ride all the way to Hermanus. (B+D)

Day 03

Hermanus- Knysna  412 km

412 km along the magnificent Garden Route is the target for today. No planned activity to make us keep to a schedule, so we can stop at leisure at the many worthwhile sites along the way. (B+D)

Day 04

Rest day

You deserve a little rest. Sleep in, laze by the Poolside, visit Featherbed or indulge in the world famous Knysna Oysters. Whatever Rocks your boat.  (B+D)

Day 05

Knysna- Willowmore  145 km

145 km do not sound that much but today we get some serious Gravel under our wheels. We will climb the Prince Alfred pass with a little break at our favourite watering hole Angie’s G Spot. www.angiesgspot.co.za

Then it is onwards to the Willowmore area for our overnight. (B+D)

Day 06

Willowmore – Addo Elephant  305 km

An intrepid day lies ahead of us. From Willowmore we head Southeast into the Baviaanskloof. This Gorge is everything an adventure rider has in mind when purchasing his bike of choice. It will not disappoint you. The finish line today is the Addo Elephant Park area. (B+D)

Day 07

Rest day

Today you would have gone AWOL if you had to face another riding day immediately after the Baviaan, so reluctantly we concede. We have organised a Safari and after that kick back and relax by the pool. (B+D)

Day 08

Addo -Graaff Reinet  246 km

Along the borders of Addo we head North. Our destination is the Juwel of the Karoo, Graaff Reinet. The 4th oldest City in South Africa boasts an impressive number of Monuments and churches. We will visit the valley of Desolation before heading for our accommodation for the night. (B+D)

Day 09

Graaff Reinet- Prince Albert  356 km

We’ll spend our day today to explore the vast expanse of the Karoo. Eventually we will climb the Meiringspoort Pass to reach Prince Albert. (B+D)

Day 10

Prince Alfred- Swartbergpass, Gamkaskloof-Oudtshoorn  171 km

We’ll let you work hard again today before we arrive at our accommodation. The Gamkaskloof, also referred to as “die Hel”, is a one-way street into the Gamkaskloof Nature Reserve. We go down and up again. The pass is too narrow to allow oncoming traffic. The descending driver has to give way to ascending traffic and look for a small niche to let them pass. https://youtu.be/bzYv8S0_ZHM  (B+D)

Day 11

Oudtshoorn- Montagu  237 km

We’ll be visiting an ostrich Farm this morning before moving to greener pastures, the Cape Winelands. There will be a little pit stop at Ronnie’s sex shop before we reach our destination of today, Montagu.  http://www.ronniessexshop.co.za/  (B+D)

Day 12

Montagu- Paarl-Stellenbosch-Cape Town  246 km

Our journey is now drawing to a close but that does not mean that we are finished just yet. Robertson, Wellington, Paarl, Stellenbosch, Wine tasting and the Bainskloof Pass are awaiting us. Back at the Hotel we’ll return the bikes, freshen up and will come together for a last supper. We hope this tour ticked all your boxes and we would be delighted to welcome you on one of our other tours in the near future. (B+D)

Day 13

We prepaid the Hotel shuttle that will take you to the airport. Just enquire at reception about the scheduled departure times. We wish you a safe journey home.
